Latino superstar Shakira took the country’s entertainment capital by storm with her live performance.

The concert, held at the MMRDA grounds in Mumbai Sunday evening, was to start at around 1830 hrs but started well after 2000 hrs, making the audience impatient.

However, she made up for the delay by belting out some English chartbusters like ‘Hips Don’t Lie’, ‘Whenever Wherever’ and ’Illegal’. Before that, she had the audience swaying by singing to a host of Latino numbers.

Some of the celebrities present at the concert were musician Leslie Lewis, rapper Bali Brahmbhatt, former Bollywood actress Kimi Katkar, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and Shah Rukh Khan wife Gauri with their kids.

Speaking on the occasion, Shakira said, “This is my first concert in Mumbai. Thank you for making it so special.’’

Born on February 2, 1977, Shakira Isabel Mebarak wrote her first song when she was eight year old. She began entering talent contests at the age of ten, and started learning the guitar at 11 years of age. Her debut album was in 1991 called ‘Magia’ (Magic), at the age of 14.

Shakira’s song ’Hips Don’t Lie’ went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming one of the biggest hits. Shakira lives in the Bahamas and is engaged to Antonio de la Rua, the son of former Argentine President Fernando de la Rua.
